Giant Batteries

Donald Sadoway: The missing link to renewable energy Watch video now Liquid Battery

Think about all the things that use power in your home and your school. Now imagine that multiplied across your city, your country and the whole world!

Our energy demands are HUGE! And we need electricity to be always there, when we need it.

So, the challenge for renewable energy such as solar and wind, is to meet our need for constant energy, even when the sun's not out and the wind's not blowing.

What's the answer? We need storage, and lots of it.

Fortunately a clever team of scientists led by Professor Donald Sadoway at MIT has found a solution: great big giant batteries!

Check out Professor Sadoway's recent presentation at Ted Talks 2012 to find out more. But, be warned: watching this video may foster a passion for electrochemistry!
